TERME E STILE LIBERTY

San Pellegrino, detta anche la “perla della Val Brembana”, sboccia a cavallo tra l’Ottocento e i primi anni del Novecento recependo appieno i dettami della Belle Époque, ovvero un ottimismo diffuso e una rinnovata voglia di divertimento e leggerezza, come testimoniano i suoi palazzi Liberty.

THERMAL BATHS AND ART NOUVEAU STYLE

San Pellegrino, “the gem of the Brembana Valley”, thrived between the XIX and the XX Century, utterly absorbing the characteristics of the Belle Époque: a widespread optimism and a new desire for lightness and fun, as shown by its Art Nouveau palaces.

Le Terme, costruite nel 1840, trasformano un piccolo paese della valle in un rinomato centro di villeggiatura per la ricca borghesia internazionale. L’impianto viene ulteriormente ampliato verso fine Ottocento, con edifici costruiti in stile Liberty, il movimento artistico che predilige le linee curve e arabescate. Nell’arco di pochi anni questo movimento conquista San Pellegrino popolandola di alcuni fra i più eclettici esempi al mondo di stile Liberty, tra cui il maestoso Casinò municipale, il Grand Hotel e la fabbrica per l’imbottigliamento dell’acqua.

The Thermal Baths were built in 1840 and turned a small village of the valley into an outstanding holiday resort for the wealthy international middle class. The health spa was enlarged at the end of the XIX Century with some buildings in Art Nouveau style, called “Liberty”, the artistic trend featuring curve lines and arabesques. In just a few years, this art movement captivated the whole village of San Pellegrino, enriching it with some of the finest examples of Liberty style, including the majestic Casino, the Grand Hotel and the water bottling factory.

Risale al 1904 il complesso del Casinò, con uno scenografico ingresso, un monumentale scalone e bellissimi ambienti, tra cui il Salone delle Feste.

Le Terme immerse nel verde, avevano sale e porticati riccamente decorati con marmi, mosaici e splendide vetrate, cui si accompagnavano attrezzature sanitarie e servizi all’avanguardia. Oggi, puoi tuffarti nel passato e rivivere gli stessi fasti di inizio Novecento passando del tempo nel Nuovo Centro Termale, di recente restaurato, ampliato e implementato.

The Spa building, surrounded by gardens, had rooms and porticos in which the abundance of marble, mosaics and splendid windows was accompanied by state-of-the-art spa facilities and services. Today you can go back in time and live the very same splendour of the early XX Century, enjoying the recently restored, enlarged and implemented Wellness Centre,

Più in basso, allineato lungo il fiume Brembo, si affaccia con una fronte di ben 128 metri, il colossale Grand Hotel, costruito nel 1905. Allo stile liberty si associava il gusto e il piacere di vivere di una società cosmopolita.

The colossal Grand Hotel, built in 1905 and with a façade of some 128 metres, overlooks the River Brembo. The art nouveau style was associated with the taste and joy of living of a cosmopolitan society.
